On the Sixth Day of Green chic...

Chapter 5 - Hello Gorgeous

Photobucket

In times of global recession it is true that the multi-billion dollar cosmetic industry does not suffer and if not becomes stronger. As a general rule us ladies place an emphasis on our image but what price do we pay for the supposed latest, greatest and must have beauty products? In Chapter 5 Christie addresses the issue of what is really in the products we are putting onto our skin.

I can guarantee you that most brands we find at our supermarket, pharmacy and department store will contain harmful ingredients. I picked up a designer brand of anti-aging cream and yep, right there in my hand was a list of ingredients on the back of the jar that are considered harmful. The thing is the majority of the population are unaware and place trust in these companies to bring them quality and safe products but the reality is different.

Some of these products' ingredients are carcinogens, hormone disruptors, cause harm to the immune systems and other parts of our body. These ingredients include but are not limited to - Formaldehyde, Bronopol, Parabens, and Sodium Laurel Sulphate. Just to demonstrate how common these ingredients are Sodium Laurel Sulphate is found in our regular shampoos, hand wash, tooth paste and even our children's bubble bath.

In my household I use non toxic and human friendly beauty products. It's actually not that difficult to do and there are some gorgeous brands out there which are scented with devine essential oils. Some of my favourite brands have included Jurlique, Miessence and Alchemy...So making natural choices does not mean we have to go without. We even have brands that specialise in natural based cosmetics!!! It has allowed me to be gorgeous, feel great and feel good about my choices.

As for face creams.... I absolutely adore Mario Badescu products. Reasonably prices and really wonderful. And you can buy them online which is great.
