April Book Club: Wuthering Heights ~ Day 69

It was a glorious book club last night. If you ask me, this is something right up my alley as we sit drinking copious amounts of tea, eating biscuits and talking books. Expanding the mind with a great collective of ladies including a skype participant all the way from Sydney is the perfect way to spend an evening. And of course I think it's fantastic when we can merge technology with the amazing old classics.

Next book club we are delving into the mind of the emotionally tormented Heathcliffe as we read Wuthering Heights. Only recently I watched the 2009 version of the BBC Series Wuthering Heights. Before that I had picked up the book, struggled with it and put it down again. However the BBC Series captured my interest as to who this Heathcliffe character was, and created this wanting to understand and know him better.

Here is a little bit more on the book:

"Many people, generally those who have never read the book, consider Wuthering Heights to be a straightforward, if intense, love story — Romeo and Juliet on the Yorkshire Moors. But this is a mistake. Really the story is one of revenge. It follows the life of Heathcliff, a mysterious gypsy-like person, from childhood (about seven years old) to his death in his late thirties. Heathcliff rises in his adopted family and then is reduced to the status of a servant, running away when the young woman he loves decides to marry another. He returns later, rich and educated and sets about gaining his revenge on the two families that he believed ruined his life."(source)

We will be using the following discussion guide at the next bookclub and here is a great website to research more on Wuthering Heights for those interested.
